Govt copied my travel policy: Dr Nkosana Moyo

By Tafadzwa Muranganwa
Alliance for the People’s Agenda (APA) president Dr Nkosana Moyo has claimed that he was the first government official to decline to travel first class and the Emmerson Mnangagwa administration is simply following after him.
Speaking at a public meeting organised by the Mass Public Opinion Institute recently, Dr Moyo said he declined the VIP treatment because we wanted to experience what the ordinary person goes through.
“I was the first minister to refuse to travel first class when on government assignments and I introduced the policy to all those who worked in my ministry.
“This government is only taking after me,” he said
Dr Moyo added that he would refuse V.I.P treatment at the V.I.P lounge because “I wanted to experience what the ordinary person goes through,” said the APA leader.
He revealed that former President Robert Mugabe poked fun at him for refusing to take the offer.
“The then President was surprised with the decline and laughed at me but i told him that it makes no sense to travel first class when foreign ambassadors who were aiding the country were not travelling first class,” said the former Minister of Trade.
In his 2018 national budget, Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa said government would restrict foreign travels by cutting the size of delegation and that there will be no first class travel for delegates accompanying the President.
According to Chinamasa the measure is one of government’s cost cutting moves as it attempts to reduce ballooning expenditure to within the means of the budget.
