Lumumba: Chamisa should lead MDC …Tsvangirai is the same as Mugabe

By Daniel Chigundu
VIVA Zimbabwe chairman Acie Lumumba says Kuwadzana East legislator Nelson Chamisa should be given the reins to lead MDC-T as other party leaders including Morgan Tsvangirai are nothing more than a joke.
MDC-T is reportedly fractured by many factions that hoping to take over from ailing Tsvangirai who has been the leader since the inaugural party congress in 2000.
Party vice presidents Thokozani Khupe, Elias Mudzuri and Nelson Chamisa are reportedly leading some of the prominent factions that are hoping to get the nod as soon as the veteran trade unionist steps down.
Since becoming party leader, Tsvangirai has seen several of his lieutenants breaking away to form their own political parties alleging he is refusing to pass the baton to others.
Those that have broken away include Welshman Ncube (MDC-N) Elton Mangoma (Renewal Democrats of Zimbabwe), Tendai Biti (People’s Democratic Party) and Job Sikhala (MDC-99).
Although Chamisa has not publicly declared his interests to lead the country’s biggest opposition party, many insiders are of the view that he is the heir to the throne after Tsvangirai and the belief was further strengthened by his appointment to the party presidium.
Writing on his Facebook page, Lumumba said if Chamisa is made MDC-T president, he would vote for him any day without giving a second thought.
“I pray from the bottom of my heart that Nelson Nehemiah Chamisa is passed the reigns and runs for President in 15 months from now. He turns 40 on February 2, 2018, just in time.
“Majority of the MDC-T leadership is a joke to me and to anyone who is being objective. This man I vote for any day. My fear is he is now stuck in a party with a leader who behaves same like Mugabe. He is truly a man of God.
“Over the last year we have become closer than friends, he prays with me, walks with me, straightens and strengthens me, many times he sharpens me; today I just want to tell you all that we have a great leader in our country by the name of Nelson Chamisa.
“Let’s not give up. I know it’s vexing and we all get spent at times. But maybe if we learn to turn to each other before we turn against each other as a generation there is a way out. I refuse to give up on you; because if I do what happens next? We don’t win when we fight against each other, we win when we fight for each other,” said Lumumba.
The youthful legislator, lawyer and pastor (Chamisa) commands a huge following in mainly Harare but has a lot of enemies outside the capital from his days as party organiser where he allegedly imposed candidates and people to party positions which led to his poor performance at the past congress.
Chamisa is also said to be Tsvangirai’s blue-eyed boy and is not in good books with Thokozani Khupe.
