By Nyasha N Mukapiko

The MDC Alliance on Saturday clinched to victory winning  Mutasa Central Constituency Ward 10 by-election beating Zanu-PF with 253 votes.

MDC Alliance candidate Rose Tanyaradzwa Mukodza had a total of 801 votes followed by Zanu-PF’s candidate Margaret Tindirika who had 548 votes and National Assembly (NCA) Tanyaradzwa Chirimo who had less than 60 votes.

According to the Zimbabwe Election Support Network (ZESN),  Mutasa ward 10 recorded a number of assisted voters largely because of illiteracy.

Mutasa ward 10 seat fell vacant following the conviction of outgoing councillor Frank Chitembwe of MDC Alliance who had won the seat in the 2018 harmonised elections.

Chitembwe and 7 others were arrested early this year on the 16th of January during the #ShutdownZimbabwe demonstrations on allegations of blocking Jombe road.
