Zimbabwe’s largest opposition party MDC-T has expressed high hopes in their chances of becoming the next ruling party as evidenced by their alternative policy blueprint released recently which hints at new leadership before or after the 2018 harmonised elections.
In a statement  released by the party’s Vice President who is also member of Parliament for Kuwadzana East Hon Nelson Chamisa , the party announced that it had finalised a draft of what is dubbed the , ‘MDC-T’s SMART New Zimbabwe policy blueprint’.
“The party of Excellence held a policy review retreat in the outskirts of Harare to sculpture and fashion new SMART policies and Government Work program(GWP) to be rolled out once MDCT forms and becomes the next government in 2018 or earlier”, said Hon Chamisa
The meeting is said to have been attended by the party’s leaders, stakeholders, civic leaders, labour, policy experts, organic intellectuals and representatives of minority groups including persons living with disabilities, where the party’s President Morgan Tsvangirai is said to have delivered the key note address.
“The alternative policy narratives have been developed in areas of governance, the economy, infrastructure, devolution, dealing with corruption, health, education, social interventions and citizen rights and protection including foreign policy”. He added.
The document is yet to be released as it is said to be awaiting approval and adoption by the party’s national council.
Zimbabwe already has a national blue print the ZIMASSET that is currently being implemented by the ruling party, the finalising of an alternative blueprint policy by the opposition party is a clear show that they are looking and planning beyond the existing government.
In the event that the MDC-T gains power it will be the second party in government after 37 years of Independence.
