"ZANU PF reforming from within," says Mnangagwa

By Tariro Daphne
If recent sentiments by Vice President Emerson Mnangangwa are anything to go by, the factional battles that have ejected some party members are part of Zanu Pf’s rejuvenation. Recently Sarah Mahoka and Sandi Moyo were booted out of the party, National Commissar, Saviour Kasukuwere has been under fire with fellow party member calling for his ouster citing corruption and fanning factionalism as the cause.
Speaking at Zanu Pf Deputy Provincial Chairman, Kizito Chivamba’s funeral, Mnangwanwa was quoted by Sunday Mail, the state mouthpiece saying, “Cde Chivamba has gone at a time when the party is internally fumigating itself from elements bent on weakening and destabilising it ahead of 2018 elections. It is in this spirit that I call upon all those he has left behind to remain united as we gear ourselves towards victory in the 2018 elections. Cde Chivamba was like Job of the bible. He was accused of a lot of things when he was in the party, which led to his suspension. However, the truth later prevailed and he was cleared. This is because the truth is like light – it prevails over darkness.”
Critics say events that have been unravelling with Zanu Pf are paving way for Mnangagwa to take over reigns post-Mugabe era.
A cocktail of alleged poor health and old age has left senior party members jostling for power. As a result, Zanu Pf has been torn into factional battles. The increasing factional wars within Zanu Pf led to the ouster of Joice Mujuru in the party and government, more have faced the axe since.
Meanwhile, the succession plan in Zanu Pf Is still unclear as Mugabe remains mum about who will succeed him despite continued calls for his departure by his critics and alarming health trips abroad.
